Skype Giveaway

Skype is helping my family stay connected and it can help your family too! Skype is a full-service communications company that offers free and paid services. I am hosting a giveaway for three of my lucky readers to win a Skype Pack (over $100 value) which includes a headset and SkypeOut credit for calling landlines and cell phones.

Skype is FREE, Get Started Now!
Skype-to-Skype calls are free. When you make a call from your Skype account to another Skype account, that call is free! I'm impressed with how easy Skype is to set-up, they really put a lot of thought into their user interface and it's easy for anyone to use. It's really quite simple to get started, so I wrote out these steps to help you:

1. Equipment Needed: You need to have either a headset or microphone for your computer so that you can hear someone talking and be heard yourself! You don't have to have a camera, but if you do this allows you to use the free video calls.

2. Download Skype software for free

3. Start talking! You need to know someone's Skype ID in order to call them, but you can do a search for it.

Skype Offers Affordable Paid Services
You are not limited to the free Skype-to-Skype services, because Skype offers affordable paid services too. There are plans that offer "pay as you go" or monthly subscriptions. So you can pick what you need to make and receive all of your phonecalls. If you have any questions about the free vs. paid services please read "What's Free and What's Costs a Little".

Skype Connects My Family
I started using Skype after my friend gave me a webcamera for Christmas. Now we can keep in touch with my children's grandparents that we only see a few times a year. My kids love the interaction they get with the full-screen video and even like to tickle the screen. It's so fun for us (and for our family) to stay connected this way! And our calls to each other are free because we are both using Skype.

Skype For My Business
My blog is my business and it has grown so much! I planned on setting-up a business phone number and voicemail, but hadn't made any steps in executing that plan. Skype is now my business solution for my communication needs after trying out their Skype Unlimited World Subscription. I've got my voicemail set-up and will be purchasing an online number that anyone can call from any phone. Skype will help me stay in-touch with my readers and advertisers.

I love skype!! I moved from Alabama to Utah about 5 years ago now and my mom who lives in Florida and my sister who is in Alabama both use Skype. They told me about it and I started using it. My dog actually ate my headset about 2 months ago and I have not had the funds to purchase another one so this is a wonderful giveaway! Thanks

I have been wanting to start using Skype to keep in touch w/ my mom in another state. My kids LOVE their nana, and my 4 yr old gets really sad when her nana leaves to get on a plane so this would help. I also have friends all over the states/world.

Skype to skype account calls are free, but skype to landline calls cost something if i understand it right.

We use it to stay connected with family. When the kids go with dad to Grandpa and Grandman's house i can still see them on video and say goodnight.

Skype is awesome. I had always heard so much about but never actually needed. Now my husband is stationed overseas so now we can talk face to face for free. And the best part he can still see the kids. Oh and it so easy to use.

We used skype while my husband was deployed in the "sandbox" (until he no longer had internet access that is...) We've also used it when he's been TAD. It makes it easier to stay connected as a military family.

We've also used it to stay connected to our family since we don't live near anyone. My daughter has fun with her cousins with the video chat feature.

We have been using skype for almost a year now to stay in touch with our extended family. We host a monthly family conference call each month using skype to plan vacations, holidays, reunions, etc. and to hear how everyone is doing. At times it feels like we are all in our living room.
Recently, we have also been using skype to include my husband in family prayer each night due to him being transferred out of state. It has been a great way to include him in our daily life until we can all be together again.
We love Skype!!!

My husband and I use it when he is overseas too. He travels a good bit and often has to deploy to Iraq for 2 months at a time. We use Skype to talk and webcam so he can see our 17 month old daughter. Pictures are great but when he gets to see her running around on camera, it makes his day!

I moved to the USA from Australia 6 years ago and miss my family and friends very much. i talk to my parents weekly and they can see my 2yr old daughter (their granddaughter) growing up! I only wish Skype was around the year my husband and I spent apart before our wedding (him here - me in Australia) i would have saved $100-200 a month in phone bills!
My husband also travels slot for work to Europe and Asia so this way we can keep in touch while hes away and he can say 'night-night' to his daughter

Skype connects me with my son in the Navy, serving in Japan, almost every weekend. It's a nice way to feel closer to those you love....and never get to actually hug.

My mom uses Skype to stay in contact with my sister, who lives in Israel, but I've never figured it out so I just chat with her via instant messenger.

I have been using it for several years and am surprised at how few people seem to be familiar with it still. First I used it to keep costs down for business calls to colleagues in Africa and Asia (I work in international health), then to keep in touch with my husband when I traveled for work. Now we use it to allow our 9 month old to have regular video chats (well, he watches, they chat) with his Danish grandparents.

I have never used Skype but would love to try it to keep in touch with friends in Brazil, Zambia and Turkey! I am so thankful to live in this age of amazing technology!

For Christmas I bought my brother-in-law, my mother-in-law and myself a webcam. I was due with my third child and my brother and sister-in-law were due with their first child. We live in PA and they live in MN. So it was a great surprise for my inlaws to know that even though we don't live close we can still see the kids and my inlaws can see their new grand baby whenever they want. It was the best present I ever gave!!! Krista

Skype is my preferred way to keep in contact with my soldier. We have a local phone number through Skype so our friends and family are able to call him overseas without long distance charges. He's also able to call home without any fees. It couldn't be any more convenient--and such a great deal! It's definitely worth its minimal cost, and being able to see his sweet smile LIVE is priceless to me!

My husband is currently deployed and our 8 year old and 17 month old are so exited when we are able to talk and see daddy.

I disovered skype during my husbands second deployment, last year. I was pregnant at the time and it was so awesome. He was able to see my belly and I was able to show him some of the cute outfits and toys we got for our son. Now that he is deployed again, this time to Afghanistan, we aren't able to use skype right now. (Hopefully that will change soon!)Bbut we bought my parents a laptop and they can see our kiddo everyday! My mom even got to see my son crawl for the first time on skype! It's hard being away from our family but skype makes it easier. I don't know what we'd do without it!

My family LOVES Skype. With family in Germany, Guam, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Florida we love being able to see everyone from our home in Arizona. My 1 year old has gotten to "see" his grandparents almost daily and they have been able to read him bedtime stories via Skype. Even 78 year old great-grandma is now addicted to seeing all her grandkids. It's kept us closer than any phone call and is much cheaper!

I have been using skype for over 2 years now. My family saw my 4 month son on skype from India!

I am surprised more people didn't discover it sooner and it's becoming popular only now thanks to people like Oprah and you Heather!

I live in Arizona and my family lives in Northern California. Since having my baby it's been harder to be so far away from them. I saw Skype on Oprah all the time and decided to give it a try. Now my parents can watch my little girl, their first granddaughter grow in between our visits. She also gets familiar with their faces and voices like they are really here. She even tries to kiss them and go to them during our conversations...LOL I LOVE IT. It's the best thing!!

My daughter, her husband and their two daughters (my lovely granddaughters) recently moved to another state far away from us. My oldest granddaughter-10yrs. is homesick for us and wants to be able to see us.
I also have many friends I haven't seen in over 20 yrs. that want to communicate via Skype.

I have a cousin living in Thailand. His mother and he use Skype almost daily. I've seen this in action and I think it's wonderful to be able to see you from miles away.

Great alternative for the times you can't be there in person.

I just started using it. My family is spread all over the US. I am in Mass, my parents in New Orleans,LA, my sister in San Antonio, TX, my brother in Houston, TX, my brother in Santa Rosa, LA, and my son just left for college in Detroit, MI. We are an American family but separated by too many miles so this is a great way to stay close.
